Server log files

When you open this site or download files, the web server stores technically necessary data (IP address, time, requested page or file, browser identifier) for 7 days to ensure operation and security (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

Protection against attacks

To fend off attacks, the programs CrowdSec and fail2ban automatically evaluate the server log files. If an IP address shows typical attack patterns – such as password guessing or probing for vulnerabilities – it is blocked for a while. CrowdSec reports such addresses together with the time and type of attack to the community blocklist of CrowdSec SAS (Paris, France) and in return receives its list of known attackers. Ordinary visits do not trigger a report. The legal basis is the legitimate interest in secure operation (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR); for processing at CrowdSec see crowdsec.net/privacy-policy.

Hosting

The website runs on a server of 1blu in a data centre in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The provider processes this data on my behalf (Art. 28 GDPR).

Contact form

If you send me a message via the contact form, it is forwarded to me once as an email together with your name (optional) and your email address – directly to my mailbox at Google (Gmail). The message is not stored on the web server; its log only records that a message was sent or rejected, with a shortened IP address. Against spam, your browser solves a small computing task while you fill in the form (ALTCHA, loaded from this site, without cookies and without third-party services); the server only checks the solution. To prevent abuse, the server also briefly counts how many messages come from one IP address (in memory only, at most one hour). I use your details only to answer your request (Art. 6 (1) (b) or (f) GDPR) and delete the email as soon as it is no longer needed for that.

Links to other sites

The site mentions programs from other providers (e.g. QEMU, balenaEtcher, Rufus). Only when you click a link do the privacy policies of the respective provider apply there.

No cookies, no tracking

This site sets no cookies, uses no analytics services and loads no third-party content (no external fonts either). Your choice of language hint and light/dark mode is kept only in your browser’s local storage and never sent to the server.

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
